Options Window Overview - Advanced
Tab
The advanced option tab features three sections
that enable you to customize the software. Check
or uncheck check boxes corresponding to options
needing to be customized and, if needed, modify
or add parameters corresponding to your needs and
preferences.
File Indexing
This section shows the complete list of multimedia
and other file types to index. It allows you to
add, modify or remove items.
To add a file extension:
- Click Add. The Add an Extension window
appears.
- Enter the new file extension to be processed.
- Select an indexing type from the displayed
list: File name, only, Text file, Music file,
Picture file, Video File.
- Click OK to confirm. The Add an Extension
window will automatically close.
To modify an indexing type for a given extension:
- Select the appropriate file extension from
the list.
- Click Modify. The Modify an Extension
window appears.
- Select another indexing type from the displayed
list: File
name, only, Text file, Music file, Picture file,
Video File.
- Click OK to confirm. The Modify an Extension
window will automatically close.
To remove a file extension:
- Select the appropriate file extension from
the list.
- Click Remove. The Warning window appears.
- Confirm your intention.
To index any file regardless of its extension, use *.* This allows Copernic Desktop Search to index the name and folder path of files with extensions other than the ones listed. Important note: It could severely increase the size of the index.
Advanced
- Find whole words only: Relevant documents
must always contain whole words.
- Search as you type: Filters results
as you type the query. This applies to any search
box of the software main window.
- Skip pictures smaller than 16 x 16 pixels:
By default, Copernic Desktop Search does not
index picture files that are smaller than 16x16
pixels.
- Skip music files if duration is less than
10 seconds: By default, the software does
not index music files that are shorter than
10 seconds.
- Do
not index contents of files or attachments
larger than X MB: By default, Copernic
Desktop Search does not index documents larger
than 50 megabytes. You can modify this limit
at your convenience. If you deactivate this
option, the software will index documents
of all sizes.
Index
The Index Folder field indicates the complete
path to the folder that contains index files.
To modify the location of the index files:
- Click Change. The Select Index Folder
window appears.
- Browse to the new destination folder.
- Click OK to confirm. The Select Index
Folder window will automatically close.
Copernic Desktop Search needs to restart for this
change to take effect.
The Clear index contents and reindex all files
and folders link allows you to rebuild your
index automatically.
When the customization is finished, click OK to
close the Options window. |
