Options Window Overview - Advanced Tab

The advanced option tab features three sections that enable you to customize the software. Check or uncheck check boxes corresponding to options needing to be customized and, if needed, modify or add parameters corresponding to your needs and preferences.

File Indexing

This section shows the complete list of multimedia and other file types to index. It allows you to add, modify or remove items.

To add a file extension:

  1. Click Add. The Add an Extension window appears.
  2. Enter the new file extension to be processed.
  3. Select an indexing type from the displayed list: File name, only, Text file, Music file, Picture file, Video File.
  4. Click OK to confirm. The Add an Extension window will automatically close.

To modify an indexing type for a given extension:

  1. Select the appropriate file extension from the list.
  2. Click Modify. The Modify an Extension window appears.
  3. Select another indexing type from the displayed list: File name, only, Text file, Music file, Picture file, Video File.
  4. Click OK to confirm. The Modify an Extension window will automatically close.

To remove a file extension:

  1. Select the appropriate file extension from the list.
  2. Click Remove. The Warning window appears.
  3. Confirm your intention.

To index any file regardless of its extension, use *.* This allows Copernic Desktop Search to index the name and folder path of files with extensions other than the ones listed. Important note: It could severely increase the size of the index.

Advanced

  • Find whole words only: Relevant documents must always contain whole words.
  • Search as you type: Filters results as you type the query. This applies to any search box of the software main window.
  • Skip pictures smaller than 16 x 16 pixels: By default, Copernic Desktop Search does not index picture files that are smaller than 16x16 pixels.
  • Skip music files if duration is less than 10 seconds: By default, the software does not index music files that are shorter than 10 seconds.
  • Do not index contents of files or attachments larger than X MB: By default, Copernic Desktop Search does not index documents larger than 50 megabytes. You can modify this limit at your convenience. If you deactivate this option, the software will index documents of all sizes.

Index

The Index Folder field indicates the complete path to the folder that contains index files.

To modify the location of the index files:

  1. Click Change. The Select Index Folder window appears.
  2. Browse to the new destination folder.
  3. Click OK to confirm. The Select Index Folder window will automatically close.

Copernic Desktop Search needs to restart for this change to take effect.

The Clear index contents and reindex all files and folders link allows you to rebuild your index automatically.

When the customization is finished, click OK to close the Options window.
