Deskbar Overview
The software deskbar located in the Windows task bar is part of the Copernic Desktop Search package. It integrates with your desktop to provide quick and permanent access to powerful searching. It can be used as an entry point to search the Web or your desktop.
- Web searching: No need to pre-launch
your default browser, as the deskbar permits
you to type a query without even opening your
browser. Performing simultaneous searches on
multiple search engines in some domains of interest,
the deskbar allows you to explore more of the
Web than any single search engine.
- Desktop searching: Use the deskbar as
the entry point to your PC. No need to open a
different program to look for each kind of file;
the deskbar allows you to search for files, music,
pictures, videos, emails, contacts, favorites/bookmarks
and history items.
The deskbar is always available with a single
click or a useful key
combination, such as the default Windows
key + S, from any application. It offers a
non-obtrusive, integrated entry-point into your
operating system.
The deskbar features the following items:

- Keyword Box: Allows you to enter search
keywords. You can use Boolean operators (AND/+, OR, NOT/-) with
parentheses to refine your query. You can also
use quotes for whole words or exact phrases (e.
g. "board of directors"). However,
for Web searches, you can use only the specific
query syntax of the selected search engine. Use
the arrow located at the right side of the keyword
box to view the search history.
- Search Button (green arrow icon): Launches
the search in the last selected category or engine.
- Category Window: This special window
conveniently appears when the cursor is placed
in the deskbar's search box. It displays search
keywords and the list of Web and desktop search
categories in order to select a different category
from the last one used.

When you select a category in this window or hit the Enter key, this
will launch your search automatically. It will also open the software main
window for the corresponding desktop search category if you have selected a
desktop category. Please
note that Web
searches started from the deskbar are conducted via the default system browser
(Internet Exporer, Mozilla Firefox, Mozillaor
Netscape 6.x/7.x).
