On the Fly Indexing

• Index new and modified files on the fly (requires Windows XP/2000/NT): Adding or modifying a file will trigger immediate re-indexing of the particular file.
• Index received and sent emails on the the fly (requires Outlook): Receiving or sending an email will trigger immediate indexing of the particular email.

Scheduled Indexing

• Scan file folders for changes every [x minute(s), x hour(s) or day(s)]: Scans file folders for changes according to the preset interval.
• Scan Outlook emails for changes every [x minute(s), x hour(s) or day(s)]: Scans Outlook emails for changes according to the preset interval.
• Scan Outlook Express for changes every [x minute(s), x hour(s) or day(s)]: Scans Outlook Express folders for changes according to the preset interval.
• Scan contacts for changes every [x minute(s), x hour(s) or day(s)]: Scans contacts for changes according to the preset interval.
• Scan favorites and history for changes [x minute(s), x hour(s) or day(s)]: Scans favorites and history for changes according to the preset interval.
• Perform daily indexing tasks at [the specified time]: Updates the index using the specified time of day as the point of reference to determine the beginning of each regular update according to the applicable indexing schedule.

Indexing Performance

This section concerns the execution of background indexing when you use your computer for other uses. Background indexing means that Copernic Desktop Search will keep indexing documents while other applications are running, even if it is running behind them or is minimized in the system tray (as displayed by the Copernic Desktop Search tray icon ).

• When the program runs in background, suspend indexing while I use my computer: In order to save computer resources, by default, the software pauses the indexing process while you use other programs. It will restart indexing after 30 seconds of user inactivity.
  Usually, the best time to index is when your computer is idle, that is when you are not using it (not typing nor moving the mouse). If you want to modify the number of seconds of inactivity required to restart the indexing process in the Resume indexing after the computer has been idle for at least X seconds box, type or use the arrows to specify another value.
• Suspend indexing when computer resources are highly used: By default, Copernic Desktop Search monitors your computer’s activity constantly in order to pause the indexing process when the computer resources are highly used by other programs (or processes). This allows Copernic Desktop Search to be "invisible", meaning that it will not impede any other computer activity (yours or another program's), as it will index only when computer resource use is low. In fact, the software monitors the CPU activity constantly in order to throttle back as necessary.
• Index in low priority when running in background: When selected, this option further saves CPU resources because it provides a short waiting period between each file indexing.

When the customization is finished, click OK to close the Options window.
